Let's Start A Band

by Joanna Guevara | August 7, 2018

August 26, Mesa Arts Center will have the privilege of hosting dynamic acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela. Before they appeared in the new season brochure, I'd never heard of the pair -- and after some research, I'm excited as ever to see their show.

Starting in Mexico City, I have to wonder when these two first met in the 80s, what was the first conversation like? Long before the fame and world tours, a bond was formed over a chance meeting and a passion for music.

Of course not all conversations lead to a guest appearance on David Letterman, but it begs the question -- are you letting opportunities to connect slip away? Are you missing out on discovering a new band or interest? A fantastic friendship? I get it, it can be intimidating meeting new people or joining a discussion, but you’re losing out by not jumping in!

I challenge you to take a shot and start that conversation. Don’t worry, this is not an empty challenge. I’m challenging myself to do the same. Need a good place to start? I thought you’d never ask. Snag a ticket to Rodrigo y Gabriela and join Creative Catalysts before to grab some eats and chat. No pressure. No demands. Just people finding something of common interest to discuss. Come on and join us! Who knows, maybe we will start a band together.

Can't make the show? No problem! You can still join us beforehand at The Oak Room. Check out our event page for more details.
