In this class, students will explore the dynamic variability of soda fired pottery. In this atmospheric firing process, soda ash is introduced into the kiln, creating unique flashing effects as it interacts with clay and glaze surfaces. Through demonstrations focused on slip application, glazing techniques, and textured surface design, you’ll learn how to make the most of this expressive firing method. Students are encouraged to apply these techniques to forms that support their individual artistic vision. Clay is available for purchase from the box office and may be picked up the first day of class.
