Burning in the Night: A Hobo's Song

Friday, February 6, 2015 at Mesa Arts Center’s Nesbitt/Elliott Playhouse

Tickets:          $75.00 each

Call or visit:  480-644-6500/

Join us for a very special opening night when Mesa Arts Center Foundation presents the East Valley premier of Burning in the Night: A Hobo’s Song, based on the memoir by the late Dale Wasserman, the award-winning playwright best known for Man of La Mancha and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Opening night includes a post-show dessert reception with special guests Martha Wasserman and Burning in the Night playwright, Richard Warren.

The play recounts Wasserman’s early experiences when, orphaned and homeless, he took to riding the rails, lured by dreams of freedom. Renowned playwright Richard Warren, a personal friend of Wasserman’s; is co-founder of Phoenix Theatre’s New Works Festival and has published eleven plays. Burning in the Night is produced and directed by Dan Schay, managing director at Theatre Works/Peoria Center for the Arts. Music is by Jam Pak Blues 'N' Grass Neighborhood Band, recipient of the 2014 Governor’s Arts Award.

The special opening night performance raises funds for Mesa Arts Center Foundation’s Spoken Word program.

Arts and Cultural Education Sponsorship (ACES) Program

Are you interested in having your educational organization perform on one of the beautiful stages of the Mesa Arts Center? Would you enjoy a night in the spotlight?  The ACES Program allows non-profit educational and arts organizations use of the MAC by waiving the facilities rental fee and providing support to cover most other MAC related expenses.

The MACF encourages your organization to present theater, dance, music or other types of performances on one of the MAC stages. Theaters range from 1,500 to 100 seats.

For a number of years, Mesa Arts Center has appreciated the support of its non-profit partners. When Mesa Arts Center's programming grew in the 1980's, two support groups were formed: Galeria Guild and the Friends of Mesa Youtheatre. In the 1990's, they merged into the Friends of Mesa Arts Center to continue the support of MAC programs and operations.

In 2004, a new organization was formed to step up fundraising and advocacy efforts for the newly built Mesa Arts Center. This group is now known as the Mesa Arts Center Foundation.  MACF Board members are thoroughly committed to ensuring the MAC’s success on all levels.
