Mesa Takes Flight

Celebrating Arizona's Centennial With Year-Long Exploration of Flight

When:
Friday, March 18, 2011 - Saturday, March 31, 2012

The City of Mesa has announced a year-long project called "Mesa Takes Flight" that will explore flight and the concept of flight from now through March 2012. The project, which will act as an umbrella for Mesa's celebration of the State Centennial, is being planned by a consortium of 20 area businesses, aviation organizations, and cultural and community organizations. Mesa Takes Flight is meant to look at flight very broadly, from the flight of animals to aviation and aerospace, and from the feeling of flight in dance and acrobatics to the flight of the imagination experienced in art.

"Mesa Takes Flight highlights our strong aviation heritage and the role it has in our economy and our future. It showcases the innovation and creativity that continue to be Mesa's strength," Mayor Scott Smith said. "We are very excited to launch Mesa Takes Flight and to have it serve as an umbrella for Mesa's celebration of the Arizona Centennial."

The final event for the year-long celebration will be on March 31, 2012.  Falcon Field will host their 4th annual open house on March 31, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at 4800 E. Falcon Drive, Mesa.

Join the fun at the annual Falcon Field Airport Open House.  Free admission and parking.  See displays of airplanes and helicopters, vintage war birds, experimental aircraft, radio-controlled aircraft, a flight simulator, classic cars, public safety vehicles and model railroads.  Enjoy kids' activites and great food.  Donations of canned food will be accepted for the United Food Bank.
