Join us for the celebration: Dia de los Muertos Festival Oct. 27 & 28

It’s almost time for the free, annual Día de los Muertos Festival, one of the most festive events of the year. If you have ever seen the Disney movie Coco, you might already know that Day of the Dead is marked by rich traditions and family celebrations. At the MAC event, everyone is invited to take part and learn a bit about the holiday at the same time.

Explore Day of the Dead traditions like creating altars and eating sweet treats like pan de muerto. There will plenty of other delicious foods to enjoy, along with music, Mariachi performers, folklórico, face-painting for kids and adults, hands-on activities, studio demonstrations on campus, and an artist market offering jewelry, art and more. While you’re here, visit Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum and The Store, the artists cooperative gallery at MAC, and venture inside to see artist demonstrations in the art studios. NEW this year: a classic car show will close down Center Street for festival visitors to peruse.

Papel picado and tissue-paper flowers like marigolds will decorate the campus. And you might run into La Catrina, she’s come to be the symbol of Día de los Muertos. See you there!
