Southwest Shakespeare (SSC) is the Resident Theater Company in the 550-seat Virginia G. Piper Repertory Theater, but also performs in the smaller Farnsworth Studio and Nesbitt/Elliott Playhouse theaters. As Arizona’s professional classical theater company,SSC serves patrons from across the Valley and students from all corners of Arizona.
Following the inaugural 2005-06 season, the Company received several AriZoni Theatre Awards, including Best Overall Production Awards for “Hamlet” and “Much Ado About Nothing,” and was recognized as “Best Theater Company” by Get Out: Applauding the Best of Valley Theater in 2005-06.
Its ambitious 6-show 2006-07 season introduced Oregon Shakespearean Festival actor, Richard Baird, to Valley audiences in the title role of “Cyrano de Bergerac.” It was a tour de force performance!
