Facilities

The theaters complex at Mesa Arts Center features four state-of-the-art theaters in one spectacular building. A continuous lobby connects all four theaters and includes a box office, several concession areas, ample restrooms, and multiple lobby floor levels, all visible through luminous "glass curtain" exterior walls. The common back-of-house area includes 17 dressing rooms, production offices, green rooms and technical support spaces. In addition, the Shadow Walk offers several intimate outdoor performance areas for concerts and special events.

Each of our four theaters offers a unique performance experience.

Tom and Janet Ikeda Theater
A grand proscenium theater boasting 1,600 seats located on the Orchestra, Dress Circle, Parterre, Mezzanine and Balcony levels. Designed for large-scale performances, the Ikeda Theater will host Broadway theater, symphony orchestra concerts, classical ballet, and pop shows. It offers variable acoustics designed to enhance each type of performance. Rich, warm copper on angled, articulated wall panels and an inky blue ceiling reflect the feel of a desert canyon. Embedded lights in the walls change colors, enhancing the ambiance, while wood balconies and flooring give the theatre its intimate feel.

Virginia G. Piper Repertory Theater
This contemporary, atmospheric theater makes you feel as if you're being transported to a lush, terraced garden of greens and browns. Here, 550 seats are located on the orchestra and balcony levels. This proscenium theater is designed especially for spoken-word performances, and offers an intimate space for jazz, chamber ensembles, and contemporary dance. With its unique wrap-around ramps, the modified-thrust stage extends into the back-of-the-house for easy performer entrance from the audience area.

Nesbitt/Elliott Playhouse
Designed specifically for young audiences, this theater is a visual delight with its whimsical palette of bold patterns and bright colors. A proscenium theater, the house seats 200 at the orchestra level. Gallery boxes and steeply raked, stadium-style seating allow little ones to see all the action on stage.

Anita Cox Farnsworth Studio Theater
This black box theater is no traditional "black box." Instead it features rich red décor. Seating is arranged in numerous configurations that can host up to 99 guests, allowing for great flexibility in the staging areas. The studio theater offers a variety of events, from emerging arts groups to solo cabaret-style performances.

All theaters are connected by a common lobby area.
