The Jewelry and Metalsmithing Program was designed to teach traditional and ancient techniques as well as contemporary innovations using a combination of technology, history and art.
Beginners learn the art and craft of metal work while accomplished artists find a stimulating environment where they can explore new techniques and develop and share ideas with other artists.
Three class sessions are offered each year, supplemented by short courses and workshops. Core classes offered each session are Jewelry I, Jewelry II, Casting, Precious Metal Clay, Rock Cutting and Polishing, Faceting and Open Studio. A changing variety of special topics classes are offered each session as well. Cocktail Rings, Enamels, Sinking, Forging, Hollow Form Jewelry, Chain Making, Alternative Materials, Keum Boo, Miniature Teapots, Mold Making for Casting, Chasing and Repousse, Lockets, and Hydraulic Press classes have been offered in recent sessions. Two studios house fully equipped facilities for fabrication, casting, enameling, holloware, stone setting, lapidary and faceting, precious metal clay and much more.
