About Stageworks
Stageworks is Mesa Arts Center's own family theater company. Stageworks produces plays that embrace the youthful spirit and awaken the child in all of us. Using student and adults in acting roles, the plays celebrate young people and their life journey. Adults and children leave the theater with a warm, happy feeling while sharing an experience that promotes connection, conversation and understanding between generations. Performances are held in the Nesbitt/Elliott Playhouse.
This award-winning company was formerly known as Mesa Youtheatre. Stageworks presents a season of three theatrical productions for young audiences and their families, and other performances by young artists. Other programs also include classes in the performing arts, special workshops for at-risk students, extensive community outreach performances, and summer arts classes.

Stageworks Outreach
Stageworks is an award-winning, intergenerational theatre whose purpose is to inspire and instill a love of theatre in people of all ages. Not only does Stageworks perform at the Mesa Arts Center; occasionally it performs in the community. Participants have the opportunity to learn or further enhance the following skills:
- Receive performance opportunities in a professionally-produced theatre.
- Work with a wide variety of actors in an intergenerational setting.
- Improve acting skills by working with directors from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Provide a service to the community in a team-oriented manner.
- Perform school day shows for a dominantly young audience.
According to a nationwide survey on "What Kids Need To Succeed," youth who spend one hour or more per week in "sports, clubs, or cultural activities" have a greater opportunity for success, and according to the same report, "Youth need access to non-parent adults for advice and support." Stageworks, serves young people in this capacity.
